We are experiential travel designers. We create personalized itineraries reflecting our clients' interests, budgets and tastes.
The destinations, accommodations and restaurants we recommend to our guests are the places we love best. Many of these are jewels unfamiliar to most travel planners simply because they lack the first-hand travel experience essential to arranging an exceptional trip.
Our two principals, Doug Easton and John Ziegler, personally visit each destination, stay at each hotel or property and experience each local attraction before we recommend it. They are normally running the company from the road for all but 90 days per year in order to provide our guests with first-hand knowledge and advice.
Douglas Easton is a member of the Travelers Century Club and has visited 218 countries on its list as of February 2016. He has previously organized and led tours to every continent except Antarctica and has been a travel addict since childhood.
Doug is fluent in French and English, speaks conversational Italian and Spanish and basic German and Portuguese. He received his B.A. from Wesleyan. He is the author of two novels, The Midas Accord and A Time For Treason (the latter under the pseudonym Doug Everett), both published by Penguin under its Signet imprint. Doug also founded, as well as wrote, the first two editions of European Gourmet, the guide to Europe's 200 best restaurants.
Doug was raised in Maine, Philadelphia, and France. He calls Los Angeles home.
John Ziegler is a native Angeleno who still resides in his home town. He earned his B.A. from Pepperdine and brings to Celestielle a wealth of experience in the hotel, airline and travel industries.
An amateur archaeologist, he has participated in three excavations in the Middle East.
John is a member of the Travelers Century Club, has visited 158 countries listed on its list as of February 2016 and is passionate about travel anywhere. He is also an accomplished videographer. All of the footage for the videos - for which our company is known - is shot by John (YouTube channel: Celestielle).
We love, and are connoisseurs of, great hotels. Excellent accommodations are an essential component of the travel we design.
The hotels, lodges and properties we recommend to our clients offer great comfort, distinctive style and unsurpassed service in fascinating locations.
We make every attempt to select properties that support their communities through local partnerships with schools, hospitals and community organizations. Leaving a "neutral footprint" on the environment is important to us.
Unless there is no viable alternative, we avoid generic, cookie-cutter chain hotels.
We believe in asking enough questions in the planning stage to ensure that each trip is tailored to the client's specific interests and that every detail is perfect... the first time.
We believe that our clients should return home changed and that travel, at its best, is a path to greater awareness and self-awareness.
We believe that curiosity is a traveler's greatest asset.
We believe that travel should be an experience, rather than a pleasant way to pass time.
We believe that the best way for us to serve our clients is to have first visited the places we send them, and that there is no better educator than experience.
